It’s time to race again. Those early morning long runs are coming to an end. I may be biased, but I believe November is one of the best months to run a half or full marathon. I’ll cover a few reasons why its is one of the best months for long races, so you can start planning for next year!

It’s Cool, Let’s Race Again!
Running a race in November is great for those regions with four seasons. The weather is typically perfect. Cooler temperatures, low humidity, and some sunshine can make the running experience much easier. A training run in heat of a July summer is fine, because the effort that goes into a training run is much different than a race. While running a half or a full marathon in heat is just torture. The foliage can be amazing!
Here’s a few reasons why November races are the best:
- Cooler temperatures – cooler temperatures help regulate your body’s temperature when you are exerting yourself the most. If you want to push yourself in a half or full, there’s a better chance of your body regulating its temperature in cooler temperatures. You feel less exhausted at the end of a race when the temperatures are cooler.
- Last Hurrah Before Winter – if you are in the northern hemisphere, winter is coming. Getting that last race in before winter hits is a great thing. Completing a race before winter gets too cold can give you a great feeling of accomplishment. While running in snow is fun, training in snow is not.
- Time to Recover – Unless you are traveling, there’s a lower chance of finding a long race in the colder months. Getting a chance to cross train or ride a bike to recover over the colder months can change up your workout routine. It can also help with mental recovery.
It’s Cool to Run in November
Long races in November are really the best. The weather shouldn’t be too hot, just make sure you are prepared with layers in case it gets cold. You don’t have to worry about another race coming up after this one, unless you are traveling to the race. You can also give your body a chance to recover by cross training or riding a bike. It’s time to race again! Best of luck to those of you running this November!
